Usually weekends are jam packed with excitement and fun activities. Not so much this weekend. Today the weather is impacting my mood and motivation! The sun is missing, it is suppose to rain, and the outdoors doesn't seem very inviting at all. So I am glued to the couch, even though I should be cleaning or doing something. It makes me crazy to be lazy like this, but I guess sometimes we all need a little relaxation. I did manage to go grocery shopping, but even that seemed like hard work today...LOL

My Soap Box for the day:

So what about the government and budget situation?

I was talking with my sister yesterday, who is employed by the Federal Government I think she was just trying to figure out what was going on... I have seen several folks comment on the fact that Federal employees are complaining about the situation, but what people don't understand is this could impact several other things that would affect normal everyday people.

Tax refunds- if you are waiting for your tax refund and government shuts down you wont be getting it

Social Security payments- they say this wont be affected, but I don't believe it!

National Parks, Monuments and Museums will be closed

Applications for FHA home loans will come to a halt

Not to mention that some people work for companies that are funded by the Federal government, which means if the government doesn't pay them they cant continue to pay their employees for the services they perform....just saying

Then there is the economy...things are bad enough as it is, something like this could hurt the stock market, it will hurt tax revenue (because when people don't get paid or don't work they have no money to spend), and it will hurt all businesses related or not related to the federal government. This is a BIG deal!!! I know they have extend the time to iron out the budget and fingers crossed that they get everything worked out because I do not want to see the fall out that could follow!

As for my sister I am sure she will be considered a "essential" employee so she will have to work regardless. She had such a good attitude about the situation saying that she would work and hope that things didn't get to the point where there was a shut down. If there was a shut down she said she would do what she had to until she could get paid again. I know other employees of the government do not feel the same way, but here is my thing...people who work for the majority of businesses in this country have faced some type of hardship over the past two years. Pay cuts, loss of benefits, loss of hours, unmanageable workloads, and the list goes on. However, most government employees have not felt those hardships. They get the same pay, the same hours, still have benefits and better ones than most, the only down side they really have is a raise freeze that was in acted this year. LOL, I haven't had a raise in 3 years so cry me a river!

In the end, I hope this does get worked out for our country's sake! We really can't handle any more set backs at this point. Oh yes, the American Dream....these days the American Dream is being able to afford groceries and put food on the table for your family! It's quiet sad!
