I am scared...

Posted on 6:38 PM
to start a project I really want to do.  I have been doing so much research and it seams every site has a different way which makes me very confused.  I am not scared to get dirty or pull out tools and get to work, I am just scared I will totally mess this up.  Then I will be mad at myself  :(

Meet my old bedroom suite...
Not very stylish in today's world....you know?
and it has some damage that needs to be repaired (scary)

and these ugly shells that need to go away!!!

I got this bedroom suite when I was 13, so it's going on 16 years old.  It is kinda sentimental to me.  I really want to get some extra use out of it, and the vision I have in my head is beautiful.  However, we all know a vision and reality are two totally different things.  My plan is to try the night stand first.  It is the smallest piece and in my mind the easiest place to start.

There are some problems I think will make this complicated.  There are a lot of details and rounded corners on this set.  There are some places that need to be sanded well and filled in from years of abuse.  (I was a teenager, I didn't understand the cost of furniture back in the day!!!)  The good news is all the drawers and tracks are in good shape.  I have one drawer that needs to be repaired but other than that everything is in smooth working order.

I think I have a plan (sort of)
  1. Sand down all the flat surfaces and try to get all the bad places out (sanding will also help the paint stick better)
  2. Take wood filler and fill in the uneven places.  I am also going to try to use the wood filler to cover up the shell design because it is NOT cool.  I will probably fill in the hardware holes too because I would like to put new hardware on the drawers.
  3. Then I guess I would prime it....
  4. Then attempt to paint it....
  5. Then seal it for extra protection
Sounds easy right?  Yeah, I know it sounds easy, but I know it is not going to be that easy!!!  I don't think Mark is too keen on me taking on this project either.  I have been talking about it for two years.  Today  I was like I need to get a sander so I can start working on my bedroom suite, and he made a weird face...LOL  I think he is worried I am going to destroy his shop!  Or better yet ruin a functional piece of furniture.

I am not sure what color I want to paint it either...  I am stuck between black or white.  This is the bedroom I want to be black and white.  I think it would be easier to do the furniture black and then do the walls a off white color. Then I like the look of a fresh white bedroom suite...hmmm  It will probably be black, because you can't have white furniture and white walls...yuck!

This will also bring another project for me.  Making a head board for the bed.  I kinda sorta lost mine out of the back of a truck one time when I was moving...oops!

So there it is...something I want to start so bad, but just haven't had the courage to start yet.  Maybe soon though :)  Any comments with easy tips or how to's would be appreciated!

Probably should finish my closet first

planning my organizing...

So I have been searching online for some ideas for my closet.  Today I started by Organizing all my shoes, and pulling out pants Mark and I aren't wearing any longer.  So much more to do, but the week days are not a fun time to start on projects.  Just the shoe situation took me an hour.  Where I know I am not going to have a dream closest, I have found some items I think will help me organize a little better.
These are neat...they are for your pants and the arms actually detach and swing out to put on or take off pants.  I will have to see how this works...it may look better than it really is!
These wire hanging shelves are hard to find but they come in very handy if you have the wire closet shelving.  I haven't been able to find them in the store so I am going to have to order them online.  I already have 4 of these in my closet now.  I put Marks T Shirts and my jeans on these...they are VERY sturdy.
I am ordering several more of these to put on the top shelves of my closet.  I bought 4 of these for my linen closet and since I had to order them online I wanted to see them first, but they were awesome...so I am ordering a few more for my closet tonight.  I have stuff laying all over the shelves in the top of my closet and these will work perfectly :)

I really like those canvas shelf hangers like in my previous post but we have double sets of shelves on both walls so there is no space for them :(

I guess I can be happy with an organized neat closet over a beautiful magazine picture perfect closet.  This is life...can't have everything you want.

other than that Happy Monday!!!

I have a dream...

Of organizing our over sized walk in closest :)  Mark and I are lucky enough to have a enormous (to us anyway) walk in closest in our bedroom.  Problem is...it's slam packed with everything.  It is one of the next projects I will be tackling, and I have taken to the Internet to find some ideas.

We have a good space and now I just have to figure out the best way to make every inch of it count!  I know I need to get in there and get rid of clothes we can't wear any longer and pack them up for Goodwill.  But right now my main concern is getting a vision in my head and looking around for some stuff that can help give us extra space in the nooks and crannies we don't use.  My first concern is money.  I don't want to shell out a ton of money to have a organized closest.  I just want neat, functional and a WOW factor :)  Nothing too fancy though, after all it is a closet.  Here are some pictures of closets I thought were nice.

I am sure my closest will look nothing like these!!!  Those are some big money re-organizations.  But hopefully I can find some items to make it look pretty an organized without breaking the bank.
I thought this was cute :)

So the closet organization is probably going to take a while.  Since I can't afford to redo our closet with  the nice wood or laminate shelving I will have to find a way to add to what I have and make it work.  We have the wire shelving :(  Anyway I am going to start by going through all the clothes and getting rid of the stuff we don't wear.  Of course I have a million pairs of shoes and most in boxes so I have to look at that situation as well, but I don't think I will be parting with any of my shoes...LOL  I might start sorting through the clothes this week.  I would really like to have this done in the next two weeks so I can switch over to our winter wardrobe.  Problem is I have a million ideas and most of them are not going to work....gezzz  Organizing is so stressful!
