Just when I try to do something nice...

Posted on 9:42 PM
So today after work, I thought I would help Mark out since he was planting the garden. I was going to push mow the grass around the decks and pool. I go in the shop pull out the push mower and get everything ready... I pulled and pulled on the cord to crank it, but nothing. A few more pulls and I thought it was about to crank and then I almost hit the ground :( I broke the crank cord!!!!

Oh goodness...then Mark comes out of the shop and just looked at me. I said oops, I think I broke it (LOL), he just shook his head and proceeded to the shop for tools. Poor guy, here I was trying to be helpful and created more work for him. Anyway, he didn't have time to work on it since he needed to get everything planted in the garden before dark.

Leave it to me to break something! I am sure Mark was probably real happy about my clumsiness!

A slow weekend...

It's Sunday evening, yet again. This weekend was really nice, and relaxing. Friday night Mark and I were pooped from work so we stayed in and watched TV and I got a little cleaning done.

Saturday I woke up to a dreary day. I was off to buy my camera I was so excited about. I went all the way to Raleigh and Best Buy was sold out...UGH! It said they had some in stock online, but they had none. That made me kind of ill :( I ended up ordering it online so I will have it by the end of the week...Yay! Note to self...just buy stuff online, it's so much easier! Then grocery shopping and home to clean. I had a ton of cardboard boxes stuffed in my spare bedrooms that have been driving me crazy so I decided to break them all down and get them to the dump. I am so glad they are gone for good! Saturday evening we walked across the street to spend some time with our neighbors. We had a great time chatting and playing a few card games.

It was beautiful outside this morning when I got up. I had a few cups of coffee and rambled through the Sunday paper. Then it was off to lunch at Marks Grandma's house. We had a nice lunch with everyone, and then the kids had an ester egg hunt. They put money in some of the eggs and after they were done all the kids were on the front porch trying to see how much money their eggs contained. It was so funny :) Once we got home I decided to try to get some sun on my pasty skin. I grabbed a bottle of water, some magazines and off to the pool I went. Right now out pool is yucky! I just wanted to get some sun! I only layed out for an hour and a half and I am pretty crispy! I hope this sun will go in by tomorrow or i will be looking like a lobster.

Mark cooked a yummy dinner for me tonight. Pork chops on the grill, green beans and pasta salad. Mark's uncle came by and ran the rows in our garden...Oh goodness! 15 rows of soon to be chores for me. I don't think I am ready for all that work :(

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend!!! Have a great week :)

different things...

I couldn't wait to get off work today! Actually I can't wait for Friday, because I am totally over this week.

So today after work, Mark told me I could try my hand at cutting the grass with his new toy. I was super excited. I have never ran a zero turn mower and I couldn't wait to cut the grass. Let's just say for a uncoordinated person like myself it wasn't very easy. Mark was shaking his head at me and finally I just got off the lawn mower and told him to finish mowing Mom's grass. I am good at everything!!! I was so ill I walked back down to the house and sat on the couch and pouted like a little kid! When Mark got back home he asked what was wrong with me...ha ha He said "April, you just have to get use to it...I don't know why you are acting like a baby". Well Mark...I am acting like a baby because I don't like it when I can't do something!!!! I was having a really hard time with those stupid little bars on the dang mower...UGH! Anyway, all I needed to do was run into something and scratch my hubby's new toy, I would never hear the end of it. So for now I have been defeated by a lawn mower...really a freaking lawn mower! I will get it eventually...today just wasn't the day :(

My next soap box....EXERCISE

Dear gym, running, weights, exercise bike, aerobic tapes and P90X....I HATE you! I exercise every single day. 5 days a week I am in the gym, I come home and do some type of cardio and also the Ab riper X every other day. Seriously....how can you do all these things and not lose 1 single pound? Where is my 6 pack abs? I would settle for a 2 pack! I do all this work and when I look in the mirror I think I am fatter than before :( I have cut some of favorite things such as coffee all day, sweets (crying) and even soft drinks (down to 1 or 2 a day). I don't feel like I eat that much... Well, I guess it's just one of those things you have to stick to. At the end of the day as much as I hate to exercise I know it keeps me healthy and I do feel better. It just drives me crazy to see super skinny people who eat all the time and never exercise! How do they do it? I guess some people are just lucky, for me I work myself to death and still feel like the elephant in the room.

With all the stress and things that have been going on for the past two weeks I still feel blessed!!! So many people in our wonderful state are suffering from these tragic tornado's. All the losses bring me to tears and there are so many families who have nothing but each other and some not even that. I can never understand why things like this have to happen. Life is so fragile and can be taken at any moment. I hope all these families get the help they need and can begin to rebuild their lives. My thoughts and prayers are with all who have suffered.

What are you thankful for?

I am thankful for...

~having the electric issue in our home fixed

~Knowing how happy my husband is about his lawn mower

~Our wonderful and supportive family who is always there for us

~Great friends!

~Beautiful weather

~Knowing that even though I don't have everything I want, I do have everything I NEED and that is the most important thing!

~Having a little bit of down time this week (because last week was crazy)

Happy Wednesday :) Just a few more work days left in the week!

Vistors :)

Today was a terrible day at work...so much stress! Then to my surprise a visitor shows up!

Yay!!!! Amanda and Kayleigh :) Doesn't Amanda look fantastic? 4 weeks ago she had that sweet baby girl and she is already back into her normal clothes. Such a beautiful Mommy :) Love her!!!!!

Couldn't help but hold the sweetest baby ever. Little Kayleigh was snoozing in my arms. She is so precious!

Don't leave us!!!! Little Miss Kayleigh getting ready to go home :( I love seeing Amanda and Kayleigh, and I hated to see them leave...

Also today is my father in laws Birthday :) Happy Birthday Billy!!!! We had a yummy steak dinner and Marks parents house to celebrate. I LOVE Mark's daddy and hope he had a great birthday :)

and there was light...

seriously, we have lights and power....WOOHOO!!! I knew today was Monday, when we woke up to yet more electricity problems in our house. This morning we had no lights in our kitchen, Marks living room, the pantry and 7 more outlets without power. Basically two rooms of our house without electricity. So this morning started out in stress mode. I told Mark someone had to get this fixed ASAP because I was to the point I was scared to leave the house thinking we might end up with an electrical fire, after all you don't just start losing power in several rooms of your home for no reason. Not to mention it is quite scary to sleep in a home when you have to worry something terrible could happen.

Not that anything bad would happen...but really we just didn't know, and not knowing was making me very anxious. Anyway, today when we got home from work Marks cousin stopped by and after some digging they found the problem. Everything in the house looked good, so they had to get under the house to get to the main cross over box. Ah hah, problem found! Apparently somehow water (maybe a small plumbing leak...oh joy) let water get to the wires that are under the house and the main plugs had burnt out. This is what they looked like...

I am so thankful that nothing happened to our house, and that we have been safe even though this could have been a BIG problem. Luckily the breaker box was doing it's job and cutting off the power so nothing bad could happen. Steve fixed everything for us and I am so grateful!!!! Now I can sleep and feel good when I leave the house in the morning. Not to mention I haven't been able to cook in my kitchen for almost a week. Oh and that ugly drop cord running across my living room floor is gone! The only downside is now I have to move everything back into it's proper place.

So for the first night in a week I feel like I will go to bed ALMOST stress free. We have some issues going on with our car insurance which is making me quiet ill, but I am going to wait until I have more concrete answers before I get into that situation. It's always something...right?

My thinking for the day: Life is like chewing gum...it's really yummy and then it gets yucky and next thing you know it has your shoe stuck to the pavement. Sometimes it is sticky...we just have to clean it off and keep on trucking :)

Have a good week everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!

and POOF it's gone...

the weekend that is... I always dread Sunday evenings, knowing that just around the corner is another work week :( Oh well. So this weekend has been pretty good, and besides the crazy weather Saturday it has been nice out.

Today I got something for myself (since the hubby got his mower), well it's not really for myself, but something I wanted. New chairs for our screened in porch!!! Two of the ones we had were broke so new ones were in order. I was so excited to go pick them up today :)

my new chairs, it doesn't take much to make me happy!

I also have something else in mind that I want really bad....a new camera! I have been doing some searching, but I don't know what I want. I would like to get one before next month so I have a camera to take Winston's pictures before prom. If anyone has any input on cameras I would love to hear it!!! I need a good one :)

So that's it for now. Hope everyone has a great week!

A week of Constant Insanity!!!

I am writing today with my mental health somewhat in order...LOL This has been a crazy week, where several times I felt on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I made it through and now I am feeling a little more in control which is a good thing!

I have REALLY missed blogging this week. Basically we live in the country where we don't have many options for internet. I have a mifi box from Verizon and I only have a 3 GB plan and so does my Mom. They had used all theirs so I volunteered my box which left me without internet since last week. It's ok cause I am back online and probably wouldn't have had time last week anyway. So lets start from the beginning...

Last weekend Mark and I got to the point where we decided we had to have a lawn mower of our own. His brother has a landscaping company and usually we just borrow one of theirs, but our grass is so thick it needs to be cut every 3 days and with it being his brothers busy season it has been hard to get our hands on it when we need it. We can't go a week without cutting our grass because it is so thick, having a beautiful yard has it's down sides!!! So last week we started looking for a mower. This sent me into panic mode for several reasons...one being that I knew this was going to cost a lot of money, and the next because I knew we would have to finance the mower and I hate financing stuff! So, I knew we would have to find a commercial mower because a residential will not cut our ridiculously lush yard and we wanted to buy what we wanted since we plan to have it forever. Commercial mowers are NOT cheap!

As the search for a mower goes on we have a set back... Tuesday we came home from work to a refrigerator that was not working....OMG!!! I found that the breaker in our panel box kept tripping, so we make a call to Marks cousin Steve who is an electrician. He thought our refrigerator compressor was bad because that is usually what cause this to happen. So I am totally freaking out....really? Now we are going to have to buy a new fridge. So we got a drop cord from the shop and ran the refrigerator to a different outlet and it worked fine. So Steve said he would come take a look the next day. Maybe our breaker had went bad? OH heck no...nothing is that easy! Wednesday Steve comes over and it's not the breaker...guess what? We have a wiring issue somewhere!!!! Just lovely! So right now I have no electricity on the main wall of my kitchen. I had to move all of my appliances (microwave, toaster oven and toaster...that's all I had outlets for), there is a drop cord running across the living room to keep my refrigerator working and it is just a hot mess! It is going to take some time to find the problem and Steve will come back out when he has the chance to start going through all the wiring so for now my kitchen is in disarray. I hate for stuff to be out of place, so this has really been driving me banana's. Thank goodness we have an electrician in the family who can help us with this situation because we would be talking BIG money! Hopefully soon that will be taken care of....

After all of that we decided to keep going with the lawn mower search since we didn't have to purchase a new refrigerator (thank you Lord). So we found the mower we wanted and started talking with a dealer. We decided on a Cub Cadet Z-Force which is a light commercial mower without the full commercial price tag. They had a financing special going on where you could get 0% for 48 months which made me happy...at least we wont be paying interest :)

The newest additional to our toy family!
This is a big purchase for us, who knew it would cost so much to mow our lawn, but hopefully this mower will last forever and we won't have to buy another. Also a bit of advice...if you are looking to buy any type of mower it is better to go though a dealer than to buy them from a store like Lowes or Home Depot. They carry all the same mowers and the prices are the same. The difference is that they are "Dealers" and have mechanics who put these mowers together (opposed to some random person who don't know what they are doing at a store) and if you ever need warranty work you will get the best results from certified dealer. We bought ours from Knightdale Tractor and the folks there are awesome! Plus I much rather give my business to a long time family run business instead of a big box store!

Mark enjoying his new toy!!!

So that is all the crazyness I will talk about, there was other little things that were driving me crazy, but those are the two big ones. The mower is done and hopefully soon my kitchen electrical problem will be gone too.

Now onto something FUN:

If you read my blog much, you know my dear friend Amanda had a baby girl about a month ago. I have missed her so much at work, and just in general. Last night Amanda, Caiti, Amber, and myself went to dinner, and it was a hoot! I don't see these girls to often and it was nice to spend some time with them and Amanda who I have been missing like crazy! We had a nice dinner and spent about two and a half hours eating and talking about old times :) I laughed so hard I hurt! That was the highlight of my week. It's so funny how a few hours with friends can take away all the stress of your week. As for Amanda...she looks absolutely AMAZING! You would never know she just had a baby! I hope I will look like that when I have kids :)

Well that's it for now...I have a lot of cleaning and catching up on TV shows to do today :)

Blah day...

Usually weekends are jam packed with excitement and fun activities. Not so much this weekend. Today the weather is impacting my mood and motivation! The sun is missing, it is suppose to rain, and the outdoors doesn't seem very inviting at all. So I am glued to the couch, even though I should be cleaning or doing something. It makes me crazy to be lazy like this, but I guess sometimes we all need a little relaxation. I did manage to go grocery shopping, but even that seemed like hard work today...LOL

My Soap Box for the day:

So what about the government and budget situation?

I was talking with my sister yesterday, who is employed by the Federal Government I think she was just trying to figure out what was going on... I have seen several folks comment on the fact that Federal employees are complaining about the situation, but what people don't understand is this could impact several other things that would affect normal everyday people.

Tax refunds- if you are waiting for your tax refund and government shuts down you wont be getting it

Social Security payments- they say this wont be affected, but I don't believe it!

National Parks, Monuments and Museums will be closed

Applications for FHA home loans will come to a halt

Not to mention that some people work for companies that are funded by the Federal government, which means if the government doesn't pay them they cant continue to pay their employees for the services they perform....just saying

Then there is the economy...things are bad enough as it is, something like this could hurt the stock market, it will hurt tax revenue (because when people don't get paid or don't work they have no money to spend), and it will hurt all businesses related or not related to the federal government. This is a BIG deal!!! I know they have extend the time to iron out the budget and fingers crossed that they get everything worked out because I do not want to see the fall out that could follow!

As for my sister I am sure she will be considered a "essential" employee so she will have to work regardless. She had such a good attitude about the situation saying that she would work and hope that things didn't get to the point where there was a shut down. If there was a shut down she said she would do what she had to until she could get paid again. I know other employees of the government do not feel the same way, but here is my thing...people who work for the majority of businesses in this country have faced some type of hardship over the past two years. Pay cuts, loss of benefits, loss of hours, unmanageable workloads, and the list goes on. However, most government employees have not felt those hardships. They get the same pay, the same hours, still have benefits and better ones than most, the only down side they really have is a raise freeze that was in acted this year. LOL, I haven't had a raise in 3 years so cry me a river!

In the end, I hope this does get worked out for our country's sake! We really can't handle any more set backs at this point. Oh yes, the American Dream....these days the American Dream is being able to afford groceries and put food on the table for your family! It's quiet sad!

just a little update

Posted on 8:28 PM
Hi everybody!!! Just wanted to take a minute to write a little something, nothing too interesting...LOL

So I have just been doing the work, gym and home stuff this week. Sometimes it is so hard to cram everything into a day, a few more hours would be pretty helpful. Last night I had to wash clothes and it was after 1 am before I got to bed, and I am super tired!

Also I had to put new tires on my Honda. Apparently my car thinks I am made of money lately, or either it is on a mission to make sure it takes every penny I have! I did price check them everywhere and ended up buying them from Discount Tire at a extra savings (price match plus discount) of $27.48 and I will be getting a mail in rebate for $60.00 so I am happy with that, even though tires seem to be right up there with gold in pricing. Hopefully the Honda is done with being needy for now!

Cute pictures and story... I clean every day, because Mark and I like our home to be clean :) I vacuum our couches once a week on Tuesday, and last night I noticed that Marks recliner had grass on it...??? What in the world! He had mowed grass and came in and sat down and got it on the recliner. I was ill about it (ha ha), and I said to him...look at that mess, didn't you see me vacuum your couches yesterday? Mark says "yes, but I didn't know", so I guess I will just have to vacuum again...UGH! Mark said he would do it and today he did :) I did have to jump in for a minute because he wasn't doing the best job, so I had to show him the RIGHT way....

and I guess he wanted to make sure there was nothing on the floor, so I had no reason to complain...LOL

FYI...this is Mark's living room, and he never likes the house to be messy. Look around, this is the messiest room in the house!!! Cough Cough Mark!!!!!!!!

Mark really trips me out sometimes, I LOVE him so much! Today he kept calling me doodlebug I have no idea where that has come from. I love the way he always makes up random names for me...they make me laugh!

Well that's it, not much going on here. I am looking forward to a RELAXING weekend, I hope!
